It's really a human being's job to find out about the way things are with his life, and his soul, and his environment. Many times people want elaborate myths about heaven and creation and the gods. What this is is escapism. True sciencs looks at objects in nature like a leaf or a rock or a soil sample. Man studies animals to dissern how they interract. You know there are people who say it's "all in the genes". Scientiest say there may be a monogamy gene. This is a nice fact to know. And there are scientists who say there is a religion gene. A search for God might all be due to a biochemical imballance in the brain. I know that when I came here and they put me on resperidol that suddenly thoughts of religion seemed rather silly. It wasn't reality. It had nothing to do with my every day, day to day problems. Now I have a money crisis in my life. Do you suppose any of those Christians who talk about giving sacrificially are going to lend me any money? It hasn't happened yet. Many people may feel they've been screwed over by life. Now my internet service provider is trying to cheat me and an innocent 3rd. party out of money. I have gotten myself into a situation where someone else is holding money of mine I badly need. Well, the alcoholic's prayer says "Lord give he the courage to change the things I can change, and the serenity to accept the things I can't change and the wisdom to know the difference". There are times when I have wanted to "Change the church". If the church were an alcoholic the advice to me would be "You can't change the church unless the church wants to be saved". Perhaps the church, like an alcoholic has to "hit bottom" in order to listen to others. You know it is written, "As you did it not unto the least of these you did it not unto me". I'd like to change that to read, "As the Calvary Chappels did it unto me, Jesus Christ did it unto me". After all, the church is the body of Christ. I think there is a difference between "Putting a sad situation behind you" and "forgiveness from the heart". Sometimes you have to, as they say in accounting, "write off your losses" as a bad debt or whatever, but that's not the same thing as forgiving somebody. Forgiveness to my way of thinking means justification. That's what a Christian will tell you it means. Like a defence witness who refuses to testify, you are not to draw any "adverse inference" in the future from the conduct of the person you forgave. As far as you are concerned, that person now might as well be Jesus Christ. You know, on Days of our Lives that "problem daughter" is now stealing the adult's vodka at a wedding and drinking it. But if you listen to "therapists" like Jesus Christ on the radio- - you can't see this little pecadillo as anything other than one mark on an otherwise spotless character. In the story of the protigal son- - it's one thing for The Father to be generous with his own money. But as the story progresses- - he ends up being generous with his son's money, and that's a horse of a different color. After George bankrupts himself he turns to his brother Joe and starts going through his savings like a knife through hot butter. Some say when they are going through hard times, harder times than me- they say "God must be punishing me for my sinful life" and invariably they're greeted with the response "God doesn't work that way". You bet he doesn't! God screws people over for the hell of it! We know that Christians believe God is always in complete controle of everything and knowing all in advance, he knows the future. You have a choice of being punished because you deserve it or being punished when you don't deserve it. There is no third alternative. "Well, God was off napping in a hammoc that day and events kind of got away from him". No, that just won't fly. No, no.
When you read World Net Daily you come accross some screwy beliefs. Just last night I was reading about the "Pillar of Enoch". This line of thinking is what Gene Scott believes. He believes that the patriarch Enoch built the Great Pyramid of Egypt. There is a line in Isaiah about "An altar in Egypt, a pillar" being "on the border thereof" meaning on the deviding line between lower and upper Egypt. You hear about this 365 obcession, as if whatever Babylonian first came up with the Enoch myth was fascenated that there were 365 days in a year. Some even say there are text that say "365 years and 88 days" to make it exact. These people speak of a "map room" in the Great Pyramid where the secrets to decoding the message of the pyramid are held. Some people speak of Enoch's interest in astronomy You see Enoch was really Thoth, the God of writing. When I was reading all this crap last night I was thinking of how many times I'd heard it from Gene Scott. Of course Josephus, the Jewish historian gets sucked into this nonesense talking about "Two pillars to the Lord, one of bricks and the other of stone, and the one of stone remains". There are people who say there are "water marks on the linestone casing of the pyramid". Of course it's easy to forget this limestone was removed by the Moslems in the seventh century. But the implication is that when the world flooded the water rose to a certain ammount. Of course the pyramid is like 700 feet high or something, and it's absurd to think there was no mountain in the whole earth higher than seven hundred feet. Some sites point out there were Two Great Floods. Genisis 1:2 properly reads "And the earth became without form and void". Of course one thing I couldn't find was the actual text of the Book of Enoch.
Another belief these World Net Daily people cling to is that there is no such thing as global warming. Of course there is evidence of Global Warming just today in the news because of the rash of brush fires. They say there are several times as many forrest and brush fires than there used to be and they're all over the west. Firemen say they've never seen fires as severe as these their whole working carrerr. Of course the fire season gets earlier and earlier each year because the snow pack on the mountains melts earlier each year. They say this was the fourth hottest spring ever in the American south west. So we're just going to have to get used to snow melting earlier and earlier every year. They were batteling brush fires in Texas and Oklahoma in early February. That hat a surreal quality to it. Yet the world net daily people it's all some giant commie conspiricy, only they don't use "commie" today any more.
Another thing right wing nuts are against and that is stem cell research. These people are in love with pain. They will deny Jesus heals and if you are to either ask for or claim a healing from Jesus, a lot of people like on KFI will say that you are being unreasonable because God sends pain because pain and suffering are good for us and build character and all that. So they will deny Jesus from healing, so in my way of thinking that means it's up to scientists to come up with an answer. And of course people like Rush Limbaugh have every reason in the book why stem cell research will not only pay off now, but will NEVER pay off. People like Rush love that word NEVER. Just like there will NEVER be global warming. Now stem cell research has borne fruit. Parilyzed mice are now walking again and now they want to test this stem cell therapy on larger animals like pigs. Just think, a mouse that had been paralyzed from some polio virus (?) is now walking again. The stem cells have regenerated new growth in the neurons and they have attached themselves to the right muscles. I'd say "Praise the Lord" only I'm not sure "The Lord" is for it. Science is marching on. It's just a question of learning about our world. If they can use these stem cells for spinal cord regeneration, perhaps they can use them in optic nearves for blind people, ect. ect. My guess is in ten years the world will look a whole lot brighter for people suffering from deseases of the spine than it does now. We could see a radical reduction of the number of people forced into wheel chairs for life. I think it's a wonderful thing. I'd consider that something worth tax funding, and I also think it would be a cause worth donating to privately.
Lincoln told someone to tell General Mc Lellon,
"If he's not going to use his army,
Tell him I'd like to borrow it"
"If he's not going to use his army,
Tell him I'd like to borrow it"
